In December 2013, Gulf Cryo commemorated the start-up of its newest investment — a brand new $21.5 million air separation (ASU) unit in Abu Dhabi. The opening of the plant which is located on 30,000sqm of green field land has generated more than 20 new jobs and is now our largest site in the UAE.
The construction activity started in September 2012 and was commissioned in December 2013 so it took just over one year to complete. This is a huge achievement for the Gulf Cryo team as it was not an easy project to undertake. Due to the large size of the 200mptd ASU, the erection process was challenging, however we are very proud that it has been completed on time. The new ASU, supplied by SAID Italy, produces high purity Oxygen, Nitrogen and Argon for customers across the UAE and Middle East. This will increase Gulf Cryo's production capacity enabling us to expand our customer base. As well as being our biggest site in the UAE, it is also technologically advanced - the plant has a remote operation facility and the most advanced air separation cryogenic technology available. It is designed to ensure that industrial gases are produced to the stringent quality standards demanded both regionally and internationally.Safety is, as always, high on our agenda so during the construction, all unit operators followed a comprehensive and specific training programme to manage the process, operation and maintenance of the air separation plant. We are proud to say the project and operations team has achieved a `ZERO-ZERO' safety record with 430,000 man-hours worked.
